Welcome to 2009, Many of new and exiting things are happening for our club this year. Each month we continue to have an all out fun fest at the meeting. With plenty of racing and some new additions that include Johnny Lightnings into both the STOCK and REDLINE divisions. This should open them up for even more competitive racing. We will also test market a Funnycar class; if the interrest continues we may be adding it to the schedule perminately.

Overall Class Winners for2008.This year we saw some great racing and it all came down to the finals held at our JAN 09 meeting, below are the 08 classs winners.

Special guest for are Dec Xmas party: included Jeff Glassson from diecastaudio.com, the world famous collector and writer Mike Zarnock, and CT own collector and writer Bob Parker. It was awesom that these guys showed up, we got lucky to get all 3 at the same time. They spent the day with the gang at CVD bench racing and answering questions and signed autographs as well.

We attended the 50 th Annual Frank Maratta's Auto & Cycle show in Hartford CT. We setup our 4 lane 45 ft race track and became the hit of the show.  We had 3 days of racing and gave away over 400 cars to lucky race winners. The club also was personally invited back next year by Frank. The members that attended had a blast and we're able to hopefully pick up a few new members. Remember it all about having fun and getting kids involved as they will be the next generation that carries the club and hot wheels/diecast into the future.

Below are a few pictures from the show

It's all about having fun, lots of cars to pick from and a smile

Summer Smash August 22-24, Warick RI.  The CVD gang had a ball, and the RIHWC did an outstand job at putting on one of the best East Coast hotwheels shows I've ever attended. Thes guys smoked all other East Coast events I've attended in years past. I've been to the big West Coast shows but this was awesome for RIHWC first try, 09 will be even better, these guys are Making NOISE. The guest list was top notch, George Soulakis (the Sizzler man himself), HW guru Mike Zarnock, historian Bob Parker, Lee Pearlman from Liberty, and Mr EVO, David Chang -the West coast renagade that came East for a wild weekend. The vendors and room to room trading was awesome, there was pleanty of racing, story swapping and just over all family fun. One of my fondest memories besides the racing was the Custom HW building seminar put on by RIHWC members Mike Suke & Joe Small. Mike and Joe took you thru the steps needed to build a HW from stratch. It was impressive, loved all the tips and trick, and you walked away with a cool build. I'm sure when the RIHWC totals up all the $$$ the Make-A-Wish foundation will be smiling as they are such a deserving charity. Again this club put on a top shelf show, there were no sad faces in the house. The group from CVD had a great showing of support and as a club we walked away with a bunch of trophy's. Ken & Bob had by far the best hotwheels display in the show. Well enjoy the photo's. Any CVD member that would like to share some of thier images and or stories please get them to me so I can post.     Thanks - Bob

July 13, 2008,  Our lastest venue that we attended and setup our 45 foot 4 lane race track was at the 7th Annual Benefit Car show sponsored by the Valley Classic Wheels Car Club of Simsbury, CT. The car show was held on Iron Horse blvd and attracted over 425 automobiles. The CVD booth was jammin all day with great racing action and plenty of happy faces. It was 25 cents per race and most kid walked away with a brand new HotWheels car. See images below.

The Mike Reardon Collection AKA: The Corvette Kid

Mike the guy with the strainer on his head

Mike began collecting diecast cars after he got the bug from his dad. Mike's collection is well built containing RLC pieces, HW First Additions, HW T-hunts and anything odd ball in nature.  But the core of his collection is anything Corvette. And its anything, from the Matchbox Major league baseball set to AFX slot cars. There are mint redlines, every HotWheel, Johhy Lightning, and Muscle Machine ever made. What collection would be complete without a 1 to 1 , 1976 Canary Yellow GM Corvette. Enjoy Mike's images, and if your lucky just ask if you can stop by and view is collection, its worth the trip, it will blow you away. Enjoy.
